"Nine Sheep Killed and Butchered Near Lutterworth

Some time between 21.00 hrs yesterday and 06.00 hrs this morning (29/7/19), unknown offenders entered a field near the A5 between the Gibbet Lane island and Magna Park island, then killed and butchered 2 ewes and 7 lambs. If you saw any vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously in this area around the times stated please call 101 and refer to inc 99 of 29/7/19 or email in confidence [email protected].

If you have livestock or live, go past a field with livestock in and see anything suspicious, especially in the early hours of the morning please contact the police quoting Operation Hillman.
Padlock field gates, if not used regularly put an obstacle in front of them. Turn or cap the hinges so that gates cannot be lifted off and ensure fences, gates and boundaries are in good order.
Where possible check your livestock at different times of the day, including on clear nights and the early hours of the morning and report anyone acting suspiciously near your stock."

Not sure if this has already been mentioned elsewhere on here but most standard livestock insurance policies cover for theft which is the case of killing and butchering the the field as long as the carcasses are removed.

If they are disturbed or abandon a carcass (my neighbour had 21 killed, not all removed) that is classed as malicious damage, not theft and is often an option on a policy rather than standard cover.

To add malicious damage can cost as little as £6 but it's a massive extra kick in the nuts to be told you're not covered for all of your losses if you haven't already asked for the cover. It would make sense to check policies if you're farming sheep in the Midlands at the moment.
