Morrison's Beef

This is why I very rarely have steak on a night out. Usually disapointed.
In the Scottish Farmer a few months ago John Elliott said the steak you get in a roadside diner in USA is far better than most you get in the UK. Caused a bit of a stir !
Nothing compares to the steak I had in Louiville Kentucky a few years ago

There is no reason why Scottish beef can't be the best in the world , green grass , grain ,

Management accountants run businesses, big or small, end of. Get on the wrong side of them and your history, I found this out to my cost. Big difference between a tax accountant and a management one.

It was the same up here local butcher beef was sh!t, properly hung and everything, hes not trading anymore.

Personally I think it’s because butchers trip over themselves for these muscle bound 500 kilo heifers with not enough cover on them. I genuinely find Morrison’s beef good beef but they like a good covering on them

The obvious comment there would be that Morrisons pay 20p/kg for Shorthorn and 10kg premium for other native breeds? I would agree, their beef had been good when we've had it.

Yes they pay a premium on shorthorns, I guess they had to as all the others have their own native schemes....if I was a butcher I’d be buying angus’ Galloways and shorthorns but then who wants to buy fatty meat these days....the modern day housewife can’t seem to work out that the fat can be cut off after the meat is cooked

Speaking to a bloke at work who really knows the quality meat market, said all the best butchers in 'The Toon' just used to buy fat Galloways.

Nae doubt! No easy to buy though, properly finished.

A mate of mine finished a Galloway heifer for the freezer a few years ago, very happy with the result.

I know, it's crackers but the supermarkets have got to cater for their mass market. I think of them as the 'Polyester people', no understanding , or connection to, food or the countryside. Just want cheap food.

Another reason people are fat these days is because they don’t do the physical work they used to 30years ago....no manual labour now there’s a machine to do everything

I've noticed there's a lot of pear-shaped younger blokes about. Average or narrow shoulders, flabby gut and wee legs. Often encased in a shellsuit or similar. Strikes me as the type of physique that you're likely to develop sitting on your jacksey on the X Box.

Its perfectly good meat in super markets, they sell 95% of what we produce and employ good butchers.

totally agree I cant understand why everyone on here seems to want to run down the very people who are trying to market our produce and I reckon I have never had a bad supermarket steak but I have had many bad butcher ones oh well everyone to their own
