Mounted or trailed sprayers

Depends on the type of tracking you’re looking at, most of the newer ones can lock when you reverse the machine to make it easier.
Weight carried on the tractor would be a big advantage with going trailed over mounted but some of that would depend on tank size required.

What's a trailed like with tracking to reverse?
I'm leaning to trailed as my little sprayer tractor would be on the limit with a mounted
What tractor have you got? Have you got many hills? I’ve got a mounted knight 1900L 28m booms on a mf 6480 it’s plenty big enough on hills but it will go where a trailed won’t the downside is it takes longer to put on/off

It shouldn't take more than a minute or two if you're set up.

I moved from a mounted hardi 20 m to a trailed 20m Bargam a couple of years ago. We're a mixed farm, reason I went to trailed was increase in tank size. Sprayer tractor is a 3095.....the move increased capacity by an extra 1500l. Benefits of the trailed.... Can easily put it on another tractor with wider tyres and faster road speed for traveling distance and for example going grassland or a reseed if a little soft going when the row crops are on the MF. Clean water tank for full wash out too. Easy to drop off the trailed if needed. I did like the compactness of the mounted... no extra wheels to flatten crop especially when turning.....I still have hard....should move it on now really

Interesting thread.

I fancy going mounted next instead of trailed to replace my demount.

Doesn't seem to be many decent 2nd hand mounted sprayers about. Would want front and back tank, 28m booms.

At the mo got a little 7745 zetor and 600l 12m mounted.
Feel that she wouldnt want a lot more.
Not much in the way of hills but a few pinches that would slow you down to turn
The zetor would tow a 3.5/4 ton sprayer with ease🤷‍♂️
Other wise could use the 5140🤷‍♂️

Not looking at massive tanks
2 to 2.5k liters would be more that enough
And would be looking at older sprayers

I went from mounted to trailed a good few years ago now. I really like the ability to change water rate and still get a decent tank load even at 200l. Especially now I have been using 150l for Atlantis. Can hook on in a couple of mins and I prefer the weight spread over a third axle.

Why not another de mount would have thought they were best of both worlds with weight over the axle

Nothing seems to be available 2nd hand. Can't justify new. I also only want a landquip which limits my choice.

Unfortunately a demount won't fit both a 2170 and 4220. Think it's to do with cab width.

I'll probably wait and see if I can buy a 4220 with a demount as one unit.

Demount sprayers aren't worth much 2nd hand. Other drawbacks if tractor breaks down I won't have a spare 4220 to hitch it onto. With a trailed or mounted can stick it on any tractor. I would be worried about reliability of a older 4220 and repair costs too.

I'd done a deal on a front and back tank landquip a few weeks ago subject to viewing but the seller decided he wanted to keep it!

We went from a 1000l hardi mounted 18m to a 2000l Knight 21m trailed. Huge improvement in output, more comfort on the road and less stress on the tractor. Initially on a 3060(80hp) and now on a 5610 (100hp). Can run all year round on 16.9R38 at reasonable pressures, easier to drop off, only trouble is reversing into corners for herbicides.

I specced a rate controller which Dad (who does all the spraying) wasn't convinced about. He loves it now as the fields are always the same size regardless of ground conditions.

We had a trailed a while back and found mounted to be better on sideland if you have any as a trailed will tend to run out of the tramline and roll the crop down unless you manually steer it back all the time using the mirrors to see.

I went from mounted to trailed a few years ago, I prefer trailed, bigger tank more acres covered, easier to take on and off, it doesn't need such a big tractor on the front, I would definitely have another trailed and probably go from 20 to either 24 or 28.
