just mulling a few things over in my head at the moment, has anyone here fitted up a winch up front by the headboard of a beaver-tail trailer (like the Herbst ones) - suitable for pulling on dead tractors or maybe a 5 ton crawler, if so did you use a hydraulic one and what sort? (plenty on ebay but i guess quality and application type are key)......did you come off the drawbar area keeping the bed free or stick it underfloor or put up front of the load area?

How many times are you going to be hauling dead tractors?
We had one on a trailer, but it was a hand turn one, works very well for the amount of times we used it, think it’s got two speeds, it’s in the back of the shed as we removed it to mount a hi-ab.

There is a haulier who comes to us woth a winch on the front of his trailer. His was therer when he brought it, somhe made a removale headboard just behind it. IIRC his is electric, but of course HGVs are 24V.
I would mount it just in front of the headboard with a slot in for the cable.
Make aure it has some kind of cover too otherwise it will get covered in mud and straw and everything else.
