Moving into new gea/westfalia 20 unit parlour.(20/40) ,Automatic cluster removers. Batch feeders
Used to milk in a 6 unit parlour so going be a big difference
Will be on my own milking
So just looking what is the most efficient routine
Milk in a batch of 5's or 10s
Saw one lad milking in batch of full 20 but would be big lull in post teat spraying the cows.
Could be 8 to 10 mins pass before he sprayed them and let them off

Any suggestions welcome

we milk in batches of 4 , switch 4 spray 4, when you get to the last four open the front gate
have an ambic teatspray dropper in the middle , its as far as they reach comfortably so 5 droppers in our 20/40

Is that routine on your own or with help?
I only have two teatspray droppers they can do ten cows each

I have a 20/40, milk all 20 then teat dip on way back up once swapped over to other side. Very happy to milk on my own in a 20/40, no need for more people in the parlour.

Cheers
I'd disagree tho
I think it is important to get teat dip on cows asap
Longer you leave it. More chance of infection

one milking most of the time, an extra pair of hands speeds things up on the first and last side.
I would agree that getting a good cover of teat dip on as the units come off is better, our vets recommended it.
often the last cow is going out as the cluster comes off it

Keep it simple and enjoyable . We are only milking cows not re creating the wheel after all. No pre dip or post dip here, dry wipe only. Straw bedded cubicles and average at 2-3 cases of mastitis per YEAR..
