Someone may consider you to be a greedy bugger
who has nothing
he's earns it it's his to do as he wishes !!!
yes when it comes to food compared to some I would be greedy

you can be greedy for anything and when it comes to land in this country compared with other landowners or would be landowners he is greedy,
there is no getting away from it

Our small bit of England was once part of the Horlicks estate, fair sized, all came and went, like all the others. May be Dyson's forbears lost their little bit with the act of enclosure and he is kicking arse, in which case good luck. But i think Mrs Heelis did it better.

you think he would swop ? what he owns in the way of land for what I own ?
he is a greedy bugger
No but I bet the business philosophy is similar , would you swap ? - would that make you greedy ?
Does he buy it because he can use it or does he buy it to stop someone else ?

I suppose in a weird way @Henarar does pose a interesting question.

How much is too much,....

I have 85 acres and want more,
One neighbour has 240 acres wants more,
Another Neighbour has in excess of 15,000 acres and wants more...

it all comes down to finance, if I had Mr Dysons finances and business acumen would I be buying farms like him, sure, (i'd also throw a few choice sporting estates into the portfolio mind).

At what point does it stop being progressive and become greedy, if at all? Unless you go down the communist route then there should be no stopping anyone aspiring to better themselves or increase their holdings.

As had been said earlier, much better Dyson taking it on, being innovative and taking an interest in the running of the farms, than some foreign investors only out to turn a quick buck and rape and pillage the land, he has a powerful gravitas that I would welcome as a voice for farming, he doesn't seem to do things because that is how it has always been done, but because it is right and needed.

Speaking to someone ‘in the know’ he’s bought it to save (his children) paying inheritance tax.
Yes I’m sure he’ll have great fun reinventing the combine along the way.
Think of him what you like but his farming enterprise is probably a tax avoidance scheme nothing more nothing less.

For exactly the same reason I bought my 5 ha. Thankfully I dont need further land to be acquired to cover my tax liability so I can concentrate on other priorities which for me is seeing the world from the comfort of my home.

Are not most owned farms ? I dont many farmers who have actually bought their own farms unless in favoured
Circumstances /terms or from the sale of developments etc or sitting tenants it's nearly all old money or luck

Whilst we may not like it, the multiplier effect of him buying it over others (RSPB etc) would be huge. I was at college with one of his managers, he pays fair, has a long term plan and invests accordingly.

It seems he prefers estates rather than bare land unless marriage value.

I think one could have a much worse neighbour than he.

Yes again.
I didn’t say what he’s doing is wrong and I don’t know the bloke so can’t comment, only repeating what ‘someone who knows’ said.

No problem with that, you may well be right in that he could be getting greedy, just doesn't need saying in every single post (y)
