MVF Countrywide?

Yep I agree they should be doing that but they refuse to do it!

Basically I think the problem is that the local mill is in a right mess and now has a 10 day backlog of orders, the whole thing is turning into a right mess due to the way the mill managers and their managers at HQ are handling the situation so badly!

Staff at the stores are wrongly taking all the flack from very unhappy customers and they are as fed up with it as the customers are but they keep getting fobbed off by the Mill managers!

Instead of thinking why not ask?

Spoke to local branch manager this morning, Mills are running flat out, yes there are supply issues, Mill breakdowns , raw materials held up and deliveries backed up due to bad weather.
Orders are being fulfilled to best of capacity but this late spring has put extra pressure upon supply, sales have rocketed. They have taken extra capacity at other non MVF mills to help ease the issues and as long as the weather this weekend plays fair all the issues should be sorted by next week.
Extra straights such as Sugar beet and blocks have been ordered in to give other options on the feed side.

Been local store today, no bargains to be had as yard was already stripped bare, I think they have vastly inflated prices before discounting them! Sheep troughs were £35 after discount and I can get them from Bateman direct for 28 and bale wrap which there was none left had 30% off but they wanted 69 per roll before the discount! Everything has to be paid for there and then.

The Bideford Countrywide looks bare already, apparently.

It's a shame it's closing down and MVF can't step in to run small, out of the way stores like that one. Surely there's no problem with competition in that area - CW's been the only ag.(- ish) merchant for miles around since MVF moved out of Barnstaple, iirc.

Well they wanted 49 per roll down here after discount for silawrap, wasn't even volac, makes you wonder whether they looked at what each store sold most of something and then inflated the prices accordingly. I won't miss them as a company but will miss the convenience of having a store close by, hopefully somebody will come in take some of the stores over as some of them will be more lucrative than others and my local branch will be one of them.

So what does this mean? Are they closed tomorrow or cash only? I need a pallet of feed. Up to Bovey it is I suppose. I nipped in for dog food today. Feel sorry for the staff. Dartington lot are excellent. Hopefully it will be picked up by somebody.

The Dartington store started it's life as the new South Devon Farmers store.I believe it is still owned by P.C and G.B and was leased to C.F then Countrywide , as is the NFU office next door.

Peter was selling N.W.F and Harper's feeds and I'm sure Graham (who trades as South Devon farm supplies) has is own contacts.

What I'm trying to say is - if MV won't take it on they will be back there themselves.

When they first put the retail business up for sale last summer, the rumours were, mole, wynnstay, Carr's, sports direct, and a few even dafter ones. At one point it was given out as gospel that Carr's had signed, when the particulars had hardly been sent out!

I think Peter is still on that site isn't he? Hopefully he'll take it back on. I believe it would work well as a feed only supplier. Less counter staff and more lads loading the goods.

My local rep has left CW to work for Wynnstay with the view of them opening something down here. Would be nice to c Harpers open some more stores. They got a nice shop at Holsworthy.

Yea and a few other of their top reps have done the same thing, wynnstay are already down here though and I can see them opening more depots in the not so distant future.;)

I don't think the stock sell off will change in any way the future of those guys and I know many of them fairly well. So please don't think I wish them anything but the best. It's a real shame that the sell off has come so soon. Maybe you need to break something to rebuild it? I don't know. I wish all of the staff at Dartington the very best and am very sad that the store is closing. I feel awful for them as I like my little trips out there to pick up a bag of layers mash or so for my 3 or so hens. Saving 10% on something now will in no way compensate me for having to drive to Heathfield or Ashburton for the next 30 years. I guess I will move to pallet deliveries from Bones or someone.

I hope the owner of the site or his mate take this back on and just provide a proper outlet without all the fancy crap and posh computer systems which don't work. That would be well used.
