My ding-a-ling?

Treated myself to a new workbench - about 4m wide, legs each end (of course) and support legs in the middle. All steel, box legs and steel shelf under the 10mm top (which doesn't look thick enough, but heyho!). It replaces a very old wooden bench which could be on its 4th generation of (ab)user. New bench does have a certain "ring" to it.

Can I do anything to quieten it before I lose my hearing?

Thinking of filling the box legs with expanding foam and sticking (inflammable) sound insulation underneath the top. I'd expect when I get the top surface filled with all the junk that shouldn't be there then it might not ring as much anyway?

Anybody else done similar - and what did you use?

Thanks....

You need either weight or absorbing materials. Think concrete in the legs rather than expanding foam and stand it on rubber.

Depends what you do with the bench. My benches are heavy steel top and I am always tacking and welding things to the top for mag drilling or straightening.

If you aren’t planning on any welding on the bench then yes wood may be ok. I like steel though as it can be polished clean with a flap wheel and made good easily.
