Always a maverick , burned the candle at both ends , worked hard and played harder .
Hopefully in a better place now,
RIP Stanley.

My condolences to you and your uncle's family @bobk

I can't comprehend how someone gets so low that they even contemplate taking their own life.

Sadly it seems to be becoming more frequent.

I daresay it's still come as a shock Howard. I sometimes wonder if I'd ever be brave enough to do anything like that, if i knew i was on borrowed time.
My Dad been in hospital last week, and seeing all the old people with dignity gone and tubes coming out of every orrifice, it makes you think.
Condolences to you and your family.

I'm not surprised or sad really , he was full of disease and took a pragmatic approach , only a farmer could do that.
I think to like this post is just too inappropriate but unfortunately it's a hardened life style we have chosen and he's far from the first to have ever reached his conclusion but remember him for the good things rather than this one deed he has done.

Sorry to hear that, it must be very hard on those left behind. I hope he managed to settle his affairs.

Nobody knows how they would react to a health crisis like that. I wonder if I'd have the character to end my life in the face of terminally deteriorating health.
I watched my dad screaming with uncontrollable pain due to stomach cancer for the last month of his life 3 years ago and the doctor's didn't seam to be able to ease it at all so my thoughts are very open and positive towards self euthanasia as anyone that's seen the same would probably agree

Its a tragic when any one takes there own life , but in the circumstances bobk's uncle found himself in with incurable disease its way out without the pain and suffering that will most likley follow, and in those circumstances I would consider the same , but not by the same means

We as nation though should be having at least a discussion about legal euthanasia pretty much everyone i know feels the same way , they dont want to bed ridden with disease or suffering from alzheimers in old age , It should be a free choice to do as you please no pressure from anyone , to go or stay but with doctors confirmation of any incurable disease you should be able check in at your hospital to "check out"
The self service way stanley took was his choise and we need to respect that but It does not take in account those left behind those who found him and the memory they have off that event not of his life.
