So when I select bottom box the lights nor gear selected show on the dash , everything works fine you have guess which gear it's in
no issues when high box is selected , any ideas ? tia

Sorry Mate.
Your fault description is not clear at at.
What you mean top low or high box.

Do you mean High and Low gear?
Do you mean display of gear 1-4 and 5-8 next to leaver?
How about gear display on dashboard?
Do you have electric dash or part analog part electronic?
Can post some photos?

Only does in bottom box , no display 1-8 , electronic dash , no gear display on dash , everything perfect in high box,
8240 sle , 16 -16
The gears in low box all work just no display

Mine does it. Always assumed it's a switch t correctly reading where the stick is. Marine cables need fine tuning.
usually put it in and out of gear a few times till it works

While you are there check the two gearshift cable's that go to top of box more so f/r if you move lever's you may well see the ally sleeve moving check socket head bolts that retain them very often loose, if so remove them and check ally flange these bend [crap] i have fitted two flanges with longer bolt's but wanted to be made of steel so they did not bend also check edges of sleeve these can break [flanges can be straightened in vice or at one time new one's were available, blue locktite bolts before refitting. just make note of position of lever's if you remove flanges because sleeve needs to be unscrewed and that is the adjustment of lever position.

Blimey they could not have made easier than to remove mat and cover plate, as i stated you can check cables at same time, you would be cursing if it was a newer model or some of the older ones...............
