Good morning, couldn't resist taking this photo this morning, even the sheep are smiling at the lovely weather, I'm also well aware he is probably plotting his escape and death plan.🤔

Lovely sight. Those fantastic long nose / faces with the contented calm SD expressions. Brings back many happy memories for me.
They are great, I walk among them they nearly all have a scratch, at night when all asleep they just open an eye look at me and go back to sleep and they are regularly snoring.

A native breed in a different guise. We recently sent one of our Middle White pigs off to be made into charcuterie. It was the first time the maker had used a Middle White and they say they are very pleased with it. These bits are, from left to right, Guanciale, Lonza x2, and Coppa x2. There's also a couple of different salami, pancetta and a whole leg being cured for some sort of Italian ham.

Middle Whites are pretty rare nowadays, I think?

The first time I really saw Middle Whites was whilst at the Longhorn Cattle society's AGM when we visited Huntsham Court farm in Ross on wye. As well as the Longhorn cattle there, they also had Middle Whites and I remember them telling us that there were something like 220 registered breeding females in the uk, 120 of which were on that farm. This would have been about 8 years ago now.
I really took to them then, and we managed to get a couple of gilts in 2018 and have been breeding them since. We have kept a few gilts and sold some for breeding too, but most we finish and sell ourselves through our farm shop and at farmers markets. The pork really is exceptional.
