Our NC dump trailer rams are leaking around the seals, the rams are welded up units and do not have a cap to unscrew, the seals don't seem to be readily available, NC want £700 per ram for replacements, has anyone repaired one? Getting them apart is not a problem if I can get some seals

Cheers

M & G Rams Omagh.

It's unlikely they won't have dealt with them before.

Theirs new rams for €276 their a common ram with a 32mm pin usually 3 stage theirs no reason you need a genuine nc one. Theirs a crowd called northern hydraulics make 90% of all hydraulic cylinders in Northern Ireland they supply all the trailer crowds.

We had the same problem from new. Dealer changed them for new ones but they carried on leaking.. Ended up running them for years like that. Never got really bad leaks, just a seep. Stupid idea being non rebuildable, think they were made in Scandinavia. Hendry hydraulics would likely make you new ones for reasonable money..

Few years ago I did a ram on a Conner wrapper that was welded and didn’t have a means of opening it. I extended the ram and cut it on a bandsaw near the butt. Withdrew the rod through the cylinder (i didnt have to cut the eye off for this as it was same diameter as the rod), ripped the seals off and put them in a jiffy bag and sent them to Sealmasters in Cardiff. Two days later new seals arrive, whip them on and weld the ram back up, job done.

If you can get into the ram and get the seals out, id put my house on it that Sealmasters could source the seals, they are a great company and keep huge stocks of such things

Place I worked in before used to make hydraulic accumulators and they were assembled the same as that
