Neck wattles on lamb

Not that I am lambing 000's but have never seen neck wattles on a lamb before. Both twins from a Romney X Charmoise have them. A genetic throwback of some sort?

Most Charmoise have them, a lot of x bred Charmoise have them. If your ram did not have them... depending on where it originated it may be the shearers fault

Now that I have had a look, indeed most of the lambs do have wattles, some bigger than others. Didn't notice on the ram - @Keepers?

The lambs will be well gone before any need to forget to tell the shearer!

Thanks

I don't recall the ram you used having them, however it doesn't mean he never did as they do get sheared off on occasions (messy):facepalm:

However most of my charmoise do have them, I usually explain to people when they buy/use rams and warn them if they get sheared, sorry must have forgotten to mention it to you as it doesn't commonly show up in my crossbred lambs

Last year the ram I used on my commercial ewes did not have wattles and none of the crossbred lambs had them either. This year however I would say most of the crossbred lambs I have had so far have all had wattles, only one or two without, most of the exlana crosses have them, all of the pure charmoise and all of the welsh mule crosses have them

The only ones mainly without are a few of the crossbred ewe lambs and some of the welshies

So the wattle strength was obviously strong with the rams last year for some unknown reason, I won't be able to be sure which ram threw it for certain among mine as I used two tups in the commercial ewes, the one tup I used for charmoise ewes has had every lamb with wattles

Cheers Keepers. Hadnt seen them before and couldn't recall the ram having them, not that I looked. Everyday is a school day, you learn something new.
