ok, now really need a dog, went to sale in sennybridge yesterday, bid on a few but no luck. Had a Huntaway in the past, hopeless worker/ trainer ( I didn't have a clue) . Most of the collies looked pretty slight to be working hill and heather bracken etc.
Anyone know of a Huntaway , pref a bitch, for sale that is at least part trained....

Still miss that old dog..... ( called Dog due to my love of Footrot Flats)

Arent they similar to a huntaway but a bit more bitey? Dad had a welsh years ago before anyone realised or cared that they were rare and says it was the best dog he ever and ever will have. Still get told stories about him. Would love to have one... next dog maybe
Plenty of good ones about now. More of an all rounder than a huntaway or collie IMO.

The dog in my prfile pic supposedly has some welsh in her. No idea if she does i got her from a farm in the middle of nowhere in the hills around the other side of dolgellau as a scraggly skinny pup in a bit of a state. Works great whatever she is so i dont care! Not good in pens though too nervous. Not nasty enough around undesirables in white vans either :whistle::whistle:

My old Huntaway was a nightmare with sheep, or I was a nightmare trainer
The white van brigade were her speciality , wouldn't let anyone out of a vehicle in the yard unless told to back off .... and what a pal

Thats a very underrated skill in a dog nowadays. Dog doesnt have to be nasty ibe got ine that will jus jump up on the door and stand there. No one has come out to her yet even though she just wants some atrention. The others behind her on the other hand ;)

I know of some cattle dog X collie dog pups if you'd be interested in giving a young dog a go (sounds like you are looking for something part trained). Mother is a red heeler and father is a trialling collie.... they are 4 weeks old and will be strong dogs.

Would a Welsh sheepdog be of any interest? Not that I have one but I'll ask around.

Or could try Adeline Jones or Emma Mogford on FB they have dogs they sometimes sell. I'm friends with them and bought a dog which was bred by Emma. Try Welsh sheepdog society on FB or if after a border or huntaway, working sheepdog group on FB regularly have part to full trained dogs for sale :)

huh i train and breed all my sheep dogs myself. dont wanna brag yo but i have had over 20 years of my life and have mastered this skill, yeh i go for the collies. woolless my collies do more than just gather yo, a dog is only as good as its master and well readers i train my sheep dogs to the best they can be
