Net zero or lower

All of the political parties are promising to get the country to net zero at some point in the future. It's just laughable. It isn't possible for human activities to become net zero. What they're talking about is hitting some numbers that some advisor has magiced up using the latest brand of snake oil such as planting so many trees per year, which as anyone with a brain cell simply isn't removing carbon at all except for a few decades after which it's all released again. But that's the sort of thing they're talking about when they trumpet net zero. Even complete cessation of fossil fuel use wouldn't get us to net zero on its own but it would be a bloody good start.

The fact is imports don't go on a calculation of a countries CO2 creation.

So Western governments - especially the UK - will just shutdown industries and import.

The fact is that reducing CO2 goes hand in hand with reducing living standards .. I doubt many members of the public have realised what they are walking into.

You can also guarantee billionaires and coporations will not be adhereing to these targets.

Given the fact the Earth is coming out of an Ice Age which literally almost killed all life on the planet .. why the hell does anyone think it clever to make the world cooler ?

Saw the other day EasyJet are now doing the net zero thing too. Apparently investing in tree planting and wind turbines makes burning masses of fossil fuel perfectly ok for all.

They forget that trees take decades to grown and absorb the CO2, yet they will still be pumping out more and more of it each year.
