not as well as you might imagine. They take some killing.
, have a field that was reseeded maybe 10 years ago with a scattering all over it , gave a good dose of thistlex last autumn (had a creeping thistle issue as well ) nettles back the same this spring , no thistles , have some quite persistent patches of nettles in other fields , done with forefront about 3 years ago , and grazon pro for last couple years thinner but still there , stubborn fkrs to get rid off permanently , just wish the clover was so persistent

Our biggest issue is overyeared dung lumps not being stacked and hence growing big clumps of really strong nettles. Certainly spread them selves about once they've been through the spreader:banghead:

we make sure lumps are well turned to prevent Them getting strong if it doesn't kill them.

Can only write from my own experience; have used GP and glypho' on them, and can't say I've noticed any difference in the proportion that try and come back the next year - very small in both cases. And, anyway, I suspect that they are probably from seeds rather than roots.

Chaps, just be careful when using these products, you don't want to be splashing them on your clothing or skin, and certainly should not be getting spray near your face or eyes- no cabless wonders allowed.

When knapsacking the dose per target will be much much higher than with a tractor sprayer, don't be tempted to exceed the product:water ratio stated on the label as these are intentionally set to keep the spray concentration at a safer level.

For brambles I have seen good results with roundup and 2,4D. Needs to be plenty of leaf on it though.

So what's opinion on Galgon and Nettles .

If you hit them perfect then they'll be mostly gone, if not you'll need at least a couple of goes.

i don't know when the perfect time is as I don't intend on spraying nettles..... usually docks and thistles and any nettles killed is a bonus. Fluroxypyr certainly knocks them over for the rest of the season but usually they'll be back.

1L/ha of Thistlex, before the nettles are flowering. Might need a second dose next year if they are old established nettles with big root systems, and you’ll still get the odd ones coming back in an attempt to recolonise.

This whole place was like it when I arrived, and treated 170ac like that. Down to spot spraying by year 3, but they soon get going again if you don’t bother for a year.:(
