New Barn ...which direction should it be sited?

Thought this would be the easiest part of the whole design!
We have an almost square three sided barn in mind. We were under the impression that the back should be to the prevailing weather, south to west and the opening north/east. The north east weather is generally colder (wind and snow) and rain coming from the southerly direction. Cattle will be inside Nov-April with a low stocking rate.
Were getting so many different opinions...could anyone give me their experiences or thoughts? Thank you

Will it have a cantilever roof? Ours face south where possible with a 10 foot cantilever and get very little weather in.

Face to privaluing weather if you have room when weather is in other direction as you described have wind braker screen or if you have straw bales stack up for the few days it is blowing into building.

Mm what every way you put it you will get a freak storm one year and regret not putting up 4 sides , I would go for a bigger shed with feed pass up the side and big roller doors each end to control the temperature

I faced mine south, sun gets in nicely in the winter, brightens up the outlook of me and the cattle.

I have a taller shed 40 feet away from it on the south side to cut down on wind

I have just put a three sided barn up and if I could do it again I would face it any direction other than towards the prevailing weather.
so open to the south west? Whereabouts are you? We’re East Midlands

Our weather comes from the south west mostly so would face it any direction other than that. I am in Cheshire
Same as here, I get caught out with the east wind if it snows, but happens very rarely.

I sited ours aswell so the south west wind hopefully blows all the crap to the back of the yard where the muck ends up.

Open front faces South, but we have a shelter belt to the south west to keep the worst winds off it. I reckon sunshine keeps things like ringworm down and kills bugs generally.
