Not had much to do with small engines and was wondering how easy/difficult a job it is to change the cylinder head on a husqvarna 353 chainsaw, atm the thread is stripped and spark plug wont stay in and i see you can get a kit online to replace head, piston and rings for @ £30, any special tools needed or is it a case of put my glasses on and crack on

Not a bad job.
Bit fiddly.

Worst bit will be getting the piston rings in without a compressor.
Small bit of wood to hold the piston up and tease them into the cylinder with a small screwdriver.

Piston rings have little pegs they locate in.

Arrow on top of the piston points to the exhaust.

Prepare to swear when fitting the little clips that hold the piston pin in.

Very easy ,done one on a Jonsered 2149 ,,take of the carb inlet ,four studs at the bottom of the head accesed through the holes with a long allen key ,the head lifts of ,,piston is held by a gugeon pin with two spring clips either side ,,the piston has an arrow mark ,that faces the exhaust port ,,wipe a smear of oil inside the piston ,pinch the piston ring as it contacts the new cylinder and gentle push it down ,replace bolts ,carb inlet pipe ,replace the clip .
£30 for a full kit seems way too cheap ,,I used a Hyway kit ,it was imported £80 iirc ,,the other brand is Meteor ,guy on ebay supplies them from Grease

I did piston and rings on a sthil brushcutter last year was a bit fiddly but not too bad

I made a sleeve out of an empty silicone cartridge trimmed down and tightened with a cable tie

Also I think I tied a piece of cotton to the clips as a precaution
