New electric connection

I am looking to get a quote to upgrade to 3 phase electric and get a larger supply in of approx 250-300kva
Is it better to apply to the DNO yourself or use a contractor to do the application and do as much of the civils yourself?
thoughts were that they would be able to negotiate a better price for the connection or have the knowledge to reduce costs from what the DNO quote?
my electric broker has suggested using crown.
Any thoughts/experiences appreciated

I don't expect they give different quotes to different applicants. Just ask the distributor. It will come back split to the bits they will let you do yourself. But have the vaseline ready.

If your talking about a completely new supply into the site then it'll be thousands and thousands. If however you have the transformer and you just want a 3 phase off that we did one recently which admittedly was only a 20m run of cable direct off the transformer into an industrial unit it cost £1250 + vat and we did the civils ourselves.

I’ve just finalised a new 500 kva connection, about 120k.

they split it down into bits only they can do, and others. Having lost my rag after they stuck 20% on at the last minute because they ‘made a mistake’ I went out to tender and got others to quote for as much as possible, came back 150k 😡

they are all sharks, no easy way, need lots of lube, even sweet talking doesn’t work now.

Unless they want something from you of course....

Go to the DNO. Unless it's a big job like a housing estate no benefit from getting a 3rd party involved. Running a duct from the transformer to the meter point is within the capabilities of most farmers.
