New Electricity Connection - alternative contractors?

Just had a quote from Western Power to connect a new shed to the transformer on our land 100m away and there is an option to get an alternative quote, has anyone in their supply area used a different contractor at all? Google seems a bit shy on suppliers unless you are connecting a housing estate or a factory!

Yes already looked at some of those, most are very large companies out of our area, I am hoping to find someone more user friendly locally and recommended.

I came across it via here:

It makes a welcome change for them to make it easy. I went through similar with Severn Trent recently and found it a nightmare.

Will likely have to do similar again before long.

When I enquired with a couple of companies doing this they told me to stay with Western Power as the connection was not big enough or complex enough for them to bother with!

I had a feeling that might be so. It is the service termination board and so on that is so expensive rather than the cabling etc. Was wondering if our electrician can do that rather than WP, anyone know?

You should be able to trench it and lay the cable, maybe fit the head, might have to leave it open for them to inspect.
Just leaving them to connect it all up.

I definitely dug the trench out on mine.
Left them the rest.

It’s almost a fiddle the companies who can quote for the contestable work know the cost of the work from WPD and quote accordingly never had any worthwhile savings to bother

No ,western power will not let you lay the cable as its theirs ,,digg and reinstate ,is about all you can do for them
