The biggest shame being that there is now absolutely no chance of us ever being able to win the Eurovision Song Contest ever again.
We might as well not bother entering. Whereas the Russians probably won’t even be allowed to enter!

Not sure it is a big loss to us in reality. Nil point.

Given that the German economy is literally bank rolled by Putin and Germany has spent decades destroying the rest of Europes industry - including the UK (With UK politicians help) .. who are you trying to kid ?

Brexit is a direct threat to all anti UK countries because it SHOULD mean a resurgance of UK industry & power. But Boris is an idiot, probably Boris by name and Boris by nature.

What the situation like regarding Fertilisers in Ireland?
Even if own plonkers in London wanted us to increase production, there wouldn’t be much point in doing so this Spring, due the high costs of fertiliser, seed and sprays. And that is even if you could get hold of any of them!
If anything, production is highly likely to decrease here.
Not good . Prices are rising by the day and 27 % CAN is now 1000 ton according to some reports .
Many cereal growers myself included bought our yearly requirments before Christmas at what now looks very good prices .
640 for N and 720 for 18-6-12 .
N purchased last November for 450 is already spread on winter cereals
Some of my spring crop fert has still not been delivered and hopefully will arrive this week .
Dont mind Ashy plenty of ground west of the Shannon would grow good crops and did back in the seventies and eighties .
The closure of Tuam sugar beet factory and the coming of age headage payments started the drift out of cropping in the west the weather didnt help either !!
Cant see many rushing out to plough for spring barley given the cost of inputs and lack of expeirence ,
But as we are a major importer of grain a shortage can only benefit the farmers who stuck with cereal growing through all the bad years when no goverment was bothered with native production thinking we could always import ...
To busy by far throwing money at Dairy expanders to bother !!
Every dog has its day and grain growers are long overdue a spell in the sun ...

As regards planting spring Barley . I've been pondering about it whether to grow this yr or not as it's still a fairly cheap crop to grow for home use . Plenty of muck on before planting ,once through with a bit iof weed killer possibly 50 k of nitrogen and hopefully 3 tonne to acre of winter feed and some useful straw .......or have I got it wrong ?

My only reason for changing my mind is because someone camecalong and offered me big money for spuds / fodder beet in the 2 fields

There was a farm advisory meeting last week and the only real and often repeated message was that whatever farmers do, they shouldn't reduce their inputs.

I can think of any worse advice.

If we all carry on the same, let alone increase production, we will surely be all screwed with mediocre prices that won't cover costs.

I think it perhaps shows that some of our suppliers are rather shitting themselves.

Should that be « can’t « ?
