New Holland 60 series

Looking for some advice on a New Holland 60 series.

The back end seems to get quite hot on road work, once it does the steering seems to get quite heavy and the gear changes deteriorate.

Any ideas welcome.

Yes I know backends in these do see to get hot. It's really the steering becoming heavy after road work that bothers me. Once tractor cools a bit it is fine again.

I know these & TM's can run stupid hot, there was an enlarged cooler that was part of the mod pack, yours could be fitted with that, if it's ok in all other respects. If it's running real warm all the hydraulic pumps in china aren't going to pump oil that thin....

I've know plastic parts in the back end to melt and cause untold bother, so perhaps be looking at what might be causing it to run hot and improving the cooling pack up front.

Theres no oil cooler upgrade for 60 series or short wheel base tm. If you hold the two buttons in on gear stick and start the engine it will tell you back end oil temp. Its quite normal to run at 80-90 degrees on hard road work. Back end filters and oil would be a good place to start but sounds like steering pump is on its way out. Cant buy it seperate from ccls pump with newholland but I think whitehouse products will supply it seperately.

I have checked my trans temp while using the tractor, after an hour or so it was sitting at 65 which isn't overly hot. Steering felt heavy at idle at this stage already tho. Would this indicate pump wear?

65degrees isnt hot. Without pressure testing I cant say exactly what your problem is but if you were to strip the small piggy back pump off the msin pump my guess is the housing would br worn. Do you get a transmission warning light flicker when shuttling or changing from 6th to 7th or 12th to 13th?

Yea I know 65 isn't particularly hot for these, no I don't get a flicker of the light. That's the small pump in front of the main pump isn't it that ur talking about?

Update.....

Actually noticed the low pressure warning light flicker tonight when shuttling. What does this mean??

Bit rusty on 60 series but I think you have to tee in above the regulating valve on the way out of the top of that pump.post a picture if your unsure.
