New Holland D1210

I've just bought a 1210, basically, a spur of the moment purchase that was cheap. The baler it's self has done a lot of work, but being well maintained. However, the auto density doesn't work, (been run in manual for last 2 seasons) and having read about them on forums, I want to know if the crown a pinion drive to the knotters is set up/loaded right. Any one know common faults to look for on the density side, and a 'rule of thumb' guide for the knotter drive?
Cheers

Could be several things why it won't work in auto mode without looking at it I can't really help much. I assume you've put the switch on the baler mounted box into auto and tryed it !.

Same with the knotter drive without looking at it, all I can say is there's 3 differant shafts for the 10 series. The early ones had the bottom bearings on the outside of the shaft not on the pinion gear. These can be trouble but you can mod the shaft to make it like the later type, you also need to make sure there's no play in the key ways on the shaft/pinion. The shaft/pinion may have been drilled and had roll pins knocked though to stop any play this was a new Holland factory update and all late shafts have it from new.

You might also find the string will come out the tension rollers, if it does try turning the rollers shafts over as they wear 1 side. Don't bother going and buying new rollers and shafts thinking that will sort it, it won't and they're 60 quid a pair. You'll need to weld a bolt to the top bracket but I'll get you a picture of mine if you have to do it as it hard to explain

Oh just a thought check the roller switch on the stuffer, should have 4 screws in the roller end. Take the screws out and spray some wd40 in and work the plunger inside with a screw driver as they can stick. If the switch is FUBAR you can get them from RS online.

Thanks for the info hesston4860s. Been having a closer look round it this aft and it seems to have the older shaft drive to the knotters, and it seems to have a slight bit of headache between the pinion and the shaft, on the key way, but it hasn't been drilled so that could be done. Think it could benefit from a shim taking out top an bottom aswell just to tighten the clearance up between the crown wheel an pinion, and I will try to get a baler man to come an look at it, but the chances of getting one at this time of year will be slim to nil I expect..........
