New Holland T8050

Hello everyone,

Recently, I've bought a used new holland t8050, the machine didn't include the owner manual.

I was trying to use the PTO shaft and I manage to run the pto with only 540 RPM.

I look every where and I didn't find any way to switch it to 1000 RPM?

Does any one know how to switch it to 1000 RPM?

Kindly help.

They only have a 1000 rpm 20 spline shaft

540 was an option on the TG but not in the uk and that one you unbolt the shaft to swap.

You local dealer will get you one for about £250 at a guess!

my T8040 came standard with 3 different PTO shafts & a hard plastic carry case to keep them in.
the 540, 20 spline 1000 & 21 spline 1000 rpm shafts
as said, you unbolt one shaft & replace it with another
simple job - if you have the shaft

I have had a TG285 and a 8050 from new, neither came with any other shaft, both were fitted with the 20 spline one. Not sure a haybob on 540 can take 300hp!

We have a magnum 315 which is similiar. It will only run at 1000 rpm with the 21 spline shaft in and only 540 with the 540 shaft in. There is no way to change the two and run at 1000 with the 6 spline shaft installed or vice versa. We found this out with two identical large rear discharge spreaders which when when swapped ran at different speeds! Must be a sensor in the pto gearbox to tell which shaft is installed.

I would have thought its all mechanical, the shaft is connecting with a different gear inside, if it was a sensor then they would fit a switch to give options.

As I said, T8040 ( so - same model ) came standard with 3 shafts & runs 540 or 1000 no problems at all with just a simple 5 min job of changing the shafts

the same as practically every tractor ive owned . . .

If you want to run a 540 shaft at 1000, or a 1000 shaft at 540 ( for whatever reason ) then just buy an adapter . . .

It's simple

Was the TG285 a good machine? Always looked a bit weird- the wheel base and layout was basiclaly the opposite of an MX Magnum?

They actually had quite a log wheelbase despite its looks, the difference was the magnum had a spacer to lift the engine forward and higher, so should have been better, but alot of that front had nothing in it!. The worst thing about them and still true of the 8050 is the reverse ratios inherited from the magnum... give me the old Funk ratios anyday.

Ah you must have been a fan of the old 8070 series then? Spent a lot of time subsoiling with one.

The drop box on the Case between the engine and transmission also had a 10% speed increase, hence why the Magnums ran at 2000 rated and the TGs at 2200 and as far as I recall one of the reasons for raising the motor up was to try and improve the clearance of the front wheels turning tight against the chassis, whereas the TG had a supersteer axle, but +/- a few mills there wasn't much between the wheelbase of both of them.

Just fyi you can run a 1000rpm rated shaft at 540 on these machine but you need to shorten the end thats in the tractor from 30mm to 9.7ish mm
