Only need s to do odd small excel spreadsheet, surf Web, email.
No gaming not heavy use.
So what do I get.

Refurb'd Lenovo . Industry standard robust compact machine. 12" or 14" flavours. Suggest the £300-350 price range.

Whichever you fancy, I’m not a laptop fan they are not that portable. So mostly use a desktop. Perhaps a tablet with a attachable keyboard would suit.

I’d choose an iPad and bluetooth keyboard and mouse to go with it. That way you effectively get both a tablet for portability and doing your soduko or YouTube viewing from your armchair and a desktop equivalent that will work great with Excel or whatever you throw at it. The keyboard and mouse are essential for this though. Ideally a purpose made magnetically attached keyboard/cover. There are many available apart from genuine Apple ones.

If you decide on a cheap laptop, and it’s a valid choice, try to make sure that the screen and trackpad are average or better than average. They make so much of a difference to using the machine.
