I'm going to replace my current phone (huawei) i'd like to stay android with the least amount of bloat ware. my last two phones were huawei and have been excellent as they lasted 3-4 years, but the battery is giving up. And the donald has taken a dislike to them and stopped them using android. are the google pixel phones any good? what are people using? the bigger the battery the better.

New doogee has a 10000mah battery enough for a week?
Usual drop proof and waterproof features that doogees come with
Latest Android OS etc, good price, worth a look.
Really like my doogee 95pro

Xiaomi or the like seems to be OK.

Look on ukhotdeals to see what's on offer. Im thinking of just spending £150 on a phone and chucking at 2 years

I have the Xiaomi mi 9 through Ali express, but it did take a month to arrive. Brilliant phone.

You can buy through the Xiaomi store and get UK dispatch but costs slightly more.

Hate all Apple products, but each to his own. Android is the way forward for me.
Second hand is waste of time with Apple phones, batteries already on their way out and too small to stay with anyway. Overpriced and offer nothing more than Android stuff, soooo much choice with Android hardware. I could go on, but each to his own. I will never be trapped by Apple thanks

Samsung a40 here, had it 6months, good camera, battery life ok, fairly compact in the pocket (main reason for buying), about £220
Would recommend

Galaxy A40 is still available but has been superseded by the 2020 model S41, which is quite a bit more expensive. Good phones no doubt. My daughter has an A51 and she's over the moon with it and says it is far better then her previous iPhone6

An alternative to Samsung, and I reckon even better value with less bloatwear, is the Motorola G8 Power, the one with a massive capacity long lasting battery.

Hear good things about Oneplus phones, but no personal experience (I'm an apple type myself).
Have you checked the prices? Probably at least double the budget and not much to show for the extra. Yes, they have 128GB of storage as standard, which may be more than needed but maybe not. It is not expandable. SD card storage is dirt cheap to add to those that need it and have the facility, which Oneplus don't have, unless I have missed a budget phone of theirs.

It wouldn't surprise me if I missed seeing some budget phones because all the hype is about upper priced and range-topping phones.

Never even seen one in the flesh, but clearly my mate is at a different point in the market than I realised!

I'm going to try the oppo a9. Has good reviews and a big battery. I'll report back
Good choice I think. Very similar to the MotoG8 Power.

Don't you think that many phones are getting too big for everyday work use? While I often wish my iPhone8 had a bigger screen for viewing, I think it is about as big as is practical for carrying around in my pocket and tractor cab. Of course there's a lot of wasted screen space on the 8 and the new SE, with a huge chin with home button. The 10X and almost all Android phones make far better use of the square footage.

Ay well, budget phones these days generally and very loosely range from £150 to £300. Mid-range from £350 to £650 and premium phones from £700 to £1200. I do know that I'm never going to buy a premium phone when budget and mid-range phones give so much better value, almost the same feature sets and performance [for all but serious gamers and photographers] for a fraction of the cost.
I could exchange my iPhone8 with Apple for a new, marginally better but physically almost identical iPhone SE for £350. No point though because my 8 is perfectly good and the new SE would do nothing different to this one. The only advantage I would gain would be a new battery, because mine is down to 83%, where it has been for quite a while.
