New Road Drain

Ok, so the council want to replace road drain/grid opposite the end of our drive. The one that is already there has never run for years as it has been cut off or block somewhere under a barn conversion opposite us that was done some time ago!
Now, they want to run it into a piped brook that runs partly in our field and partly under our drive, this means digging across some of our drive and possibly just into the field.

So, the question is do I just let them get on with it and make sure everything is reinstated as was or do I ask to be compensated for granting access?

The works won’t block our farm access as we have a second entrance, although it isn’t good turning into it from one direction due to a blind corner.

If the boot was on the other foot and you needed to do similar what hoops would you have to jump through, that's your answer.

Will it benefit you at all?
Won’t make any difference to us, if anything will be a hindering us while the work is been done. I’m just trying to convince me old man that we should be asking to be compensated!

On the phone ASAP to your friendly local Land Agent...

Unless of course, you are getting some major benefits from the project, and it really doesn't sound as if you are!

If you want to dig the road up for some reason it will cost thousands . So charge the council thousands for digging your drive up. Plus all the diversion signs and traffic lights you will need . Plus all your surveys to
be done .

I'd be grateful if they'd got the levels right. Luckily I was passing when my local roads department were laying a new culvert -- 30mm higher than the ditches either side. "We didn't think it would matter".

I was too late in the laying of 250 metres of roadside French drain that created a rather spectacular water feature at one end. They had to dig that one up again and relay it to the correct levels. At least I'd predicted that so could feel rather smug! "I did tell you!". What the hell. The public will pay!
