New Sheep Handling trailer.

Just a wee plug for Mick and the team at MW Engineering in the South West of Scotland.

Just got my new sheep handling trailer home and delighted with it.

A properly made, strong trailer but light enough to pull with an ATV.

3 foot wide handling race and 18 inch narrow race for foot bathing or handling sheep single file. 4 metres long so you can get through a lot of ewes quickly.

Hydraulic raise and lower so no messing about removing wheels and winding up and down.

Hurdles are really well made, the cross bars are not just welded on to the uprights, they are actually properly countersunk into the uprights and then welded, so no chance of welds breaking if you stand on them.

I have attached a Facebook video of the trailer Mick took before I picked it up.

Good honest company and they bend over backwards to get you the trailer you want, as you want it.

Everything built to order so no imports and everything can be adapted to suit your needs.

From ordering the trailer to delivery took around 5 weeks so no 6 month waits here.

And the best bit was the price, honestly half what I expected to pay when comparing it to the Rappa and Prattleys for a proper set up, as close to working in a static yard as you can get.

Have a look and see what you think.

Cheers

Haha Mine is Ronaldo missing a penalty

I suspect it depends on @Aspiring Peasants ’s browsing history…

I’m not going to divulge what came up for me, but I had to go back to see your trailer.😂

It looks handy though, and probably the type of thing I’d opt for now, as I’m set up with a holding pen where I use my RAPPA yard, so your trailer would do just as well.

However, I don’t really think it’s fair to compare the cost of that trailer to a RAPPA/Pratley mobile yard as it’s hardly doing the same job. Compared to a Glendale, Modulamb, etc then fair enough.

What makes the Rappa do a different job, and how does that justify being double the price. Genuine question, everyone that has them raves about them but they don't seem to be able to tell me what the difference is and why they cost so much.

I'd argue it does more jobs.

Watched my near neighbour setting up his Alligator this week, it's definitely no quicker, that's for sure.

I have Glendale 9 foot hurdles and bought 12 more 8 foot sledge hurdles, it's a wide trailer with the 3 foot and the 18 inch race, 20 easily I would reckon

Yep, it's proper box steel, 4 Inch heavy box frame if I remember correctly, came home over 200 miles with 12 gates on it.

If I had any doubt on quality I would not have bought it. Can't be doing with lightweight stuff that bends or breaks.

Mick would keep you right on the proper steel dimensions and weights though

For you, I've no doubt it will do just as good a job and as I said, I'd likely get similar myself if I was buying how I'm set up now. I'm certainly not knocking it.

As for differences, the 'standard' RAPPA yards have more hurdles (20 iirc) to hold a good mob of ewes, which are lighter and easier to pull round (and made of a dearer material). It makes for a very flexible and mobile system.

Incidentally, that lighter/more expensive material also means you can legally tow it on the road as an unbraked trailer under 750kg. Unless yours is made of tin foil, loaded with steel hurdles, I'd be very surprised if yours was remotely legal to drive it back 200 miles.
And yes, I know we'd all do it anyway, well apart from a couple of posters anyway. :ROFLMAO:

As far as the weight limit, now it is home that isn't really an issue. But I will load it up and weigh it at the gravel quarry next time I pass, its interesting to know.

As for the light hurdles, these pull round fine and as I have stated elsewhere, the quest for the feather light hurdle is great but what do actually manage to do with sheep if you aren't able to pull gates round behind sheep.

And at over £240 a hurdle, I cannot justify that expenditure in any way shape or form.

And the Rappa system is only properly secure for big numbers when you start putting in all the feet things in.

I'm sure the system is excellent , the problem is when I opened the link the video below was called "wife sleeps husband cheats" I thought f**ck sheep this is much more interesting:devil:
I thought the last bit there meant you thought that getting humpy with the sheep was more interesting than the video 😳. Maybe put "to the" before "sheep"👍

Without seeing it up close that looks pretty much like our rancher sheep pen.you won't go wrong with that.it will be over the weight limit.we have 13 hurdles in it an chuck in a few more 😂.

One thing to watch is little lambs jumping up at the pen gates an knocking them selves out or killing them selves.happened a few times over the years.
