Having concreted the area of the yard where we used to fill the sprayer, I want to design and build a new sprayer filling site. I am thinking of building an insulated shed with a bundled floor feeding into a sump so that any spills can be contained and dealt with. The shed could double up as the chemical store and to store the sprayer during frost. I would want a 5000 litre tank that would fill from our borehole, but it would be good to harvest rainwater to use with chemicals sensitive to hard water.
The problem I predict is mud off the sprayer tyres dropping off in the bund and getting into the sump. Anybody got any ideas of how to overcome this? Any photos of your own set up would be welcome! Also any thoughts on design would be very welcome. We have spoken to "catchment sensitive farming" about possible grant aid. They said ring back in February when they may have funds, but are interested to help.
Maybe we should incorporate a bio bed? Do they actually work??
Any opinions welcome, thanks in advance.
