Nice wheels but.....
In the SW on several roads you would have been pulled over, fined and had points On licence.
No number plate, unsecured load and straps not fixed to body of trailer, rope hooks are not for straps, new or not.
Jesus! Not picking on you Sid, but the whole debate!
The guy posts a pic of a new trailer, which is more than likely a big improvement on his old one with better lights brakes and tyres and this is the shitstorm he gets. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I can tell you Ive had the rope hook /ratchet strap conversation with Vosa, Dvla or whatever they are called and the chap said as long as the strap was securely mounted on a decent hook(not some 6"nail welded on) fixed to a substantial bit of the trailer there was no issue. Possibly different in your area.
Seen plenty folk throw the whole lot over and the straps still holding everything firm to the now upturned trailer.
I have a 4 year old Bailey flat trailer and if what is said on here is correct I either cant use it or have to tie down loads with ropes (sod that) as its a box chassis and box side rave so nowhere to "hook a strap on"
What am I to do with it then?

Worlds gone mad, commonsense completely out the window. Surely if a sensible reasonable attitude is used wheres the problem?.
Concentrate on the dodgy lights no brakes brigade.
Rant over,:mad:, good luck to the man with the new trailer.

I don’t think there’s an issue putting straps on rope hooks as long as the strap has the correct end on it. I’ve seen loads of people put the rope hook through the centre of a strap hook which is only held together with a tiny spot weld! If the weld pops the strap will just fall off.
Really you need the straps with the proper hoops if you want to use the rope hooks.

I wish I was perfect like @Sid  ;)
I may not be perfect but I hope common sense gets me through life even though that may mean I don’t follow regulations to the letter. Most of us in business/ self employed would have our daily output seriously reduced if we were perfect.

We use straps with D ends on the rope hooks, bought them because of the trailer I have.
Not advocating using some old rubbish straps, or crappy hooks but if done with a bit of common sense there is no issue.

I'm sure i have seen artic lorry trailers weighing 35T being pulled on 1 pin, they should all be banned.
Heavy haulage trailers are still hitched the same too aren't they

They are a tad beefier than a tractor hitch though..

Yes my understanding is that straps with D-rings are fine in conjunction with proper heavyweight hooks welded to the body, my definition of a rope hook for a tarpaulin would be the lightweight crap often found on an ifor secured with two pop rivets.
At the end of the day if vosa want to book you they’ll find something wrong!

Main beauty of the Case cab is that it is so light and airy. Love it.
You’re joking right, the new ones must have improved a hell of a lot, we’ve got a 10 plate 155 and sitting in that is a miserable experience ,from the narrow front screen to hitting my head on the rear window top pillar when trying to lean out to see the rear trailer hitch. I’d rather go to the dentist than spend an afternoon in that medieval torture chamber.

FFS. Those bales aren’t going anywhere in a hurry. Yes probably should have had some straps on a main road like that but you have to love the overly dramatic quote about 2 bolts. Typical police making the job seem more important than it really is. Useless twits.

I see what you're saying and I don't think its a major problem nipping down a lane to get home but a dual carriageway?
At some point you have to say, if the drivers that thick, what else is wrong and pull him over. Some people really don't help themselves.
