Masseys will always be better than Fords of that era, because even without the optional Multi Power the Fergies had better gear ratios. Fords always had that ridiculous yawning gap between 6th @ 7.2 mph and 7th @ 12.8 mph which made fast field work almost impossible until the advent of Dual Power on the four cylinder models only. Why Ford had such a high seventh ratio at 12.8 mph @ 2000erpm is completely beyond me as it was virtually useless as a field gear. Fergies had fifth gear at 8.0 mph or High Multi at about 10.5 mph which gave far more usable speeds for fast field work.
Ford gearbox designers should have tried working with their useless gearboxes for a few days to realise how pathetic were their ratios for practical farm use,

there was more to it than just the gearbox though. The engines, well we know about them, ours went porous twice and the hydraulics seemed weak by comparison. Overall the 165 just seemed heavier and had a better spec range of tyres.
On the minus side i thought the cab on the 165 was a total afterthought compared to the Ford, the battery was hidden under the dash, to get the bonnet off to repair the always-leaking radiator was an utter pain and live PTO was a sod to engage, ours had a habit of getting oil on the clutch plates causing it to stick up.

to be honest im not a fan, i think the international 574 and 475 which we have or a similar era with the mulit power or torque amp are much better tractors...

20151012_131254.jpg Have been out playing this afternoon rolling in wheat with the Quantock Hills in the background. After 3 hrs rolling I now know why Q cabs came in . When 18 yr old I clocked nearly 1800hrs in 12mths in a 168, !!!!!

Masseys are just better than Fords. End of story.
