Has anyone built there own trailer and had it type approved or what the modem std is I just wondered how much of a palaver it would be any help appreciated

If it’s for ag it doesn’t need type approval. Just do some structural calculations to make sure it’s strong enough, and give the dimensions and weights to Erentek or Tractair to make sure the brakes are correctly sized.

i was under the impression it had to go to a test centre and have Iva approval to check it complying to dimensions for under run bars and lights ect

Depending on the complexity of what you are building or if it is something really unique, you'll struggle to make one for less than a good secondhand example.

I've got a well equipped workshop and built my own 10t dump trailer. The costs can easily get out of control. I bough a damn good used one last year for less than half what mine cost to build!
