If you were looking to purchase a new umbilical outfit to spread at 30m and up to 6 km. what would you go for?
To do that & make a good job of spreading at 30 meter dribble bar is going to need nothing less than 250cm to feed it , you need a lot of 8 or 10" hose a few Cornell pumps A bit of 6" hose & drag 5 or 6" hose , it can all be done but a cost , will be the best part of a million to do that

We had a Spreadwise kit last year and been really impressed with it. Not sure what part of the country you’re in but the sales guy covering the south is fantastic, really knows his stuff and took the time to get us all trained up on it as it was all new to us. Even now he’s always happy to jump in the truck and get out on farm if we have any issues/ queries. As for the kit, all seems very well made and we’ve had no issues at all. Nothing to compare it to as it’s our first set but we’ve been very pleased. Flow rate performance has been even better than promised, the 6” feed pipe makes hell of a difference I think. We’re spreading 2000m with 400m of 6 and the rest 5 and rarely drop much below 200 cube/hr with a Ferrari pump.

There are a few running around here on 6” and 5” with good output at 32m. What make of reelers do you recommend

+1 for Spreadwise. Last year on the grant we had a Bauer pump and a reeler with pipe. Can’t fault it will pull a house over and properly built. We have a tramspread drop bobbin as well but have bent it so much it no longer drops out.

we’re in the south west and found tramspread to neglect us slightly and are terrible to get any warranty work done.

my brother in law works for a big contractor who’s just taken delivery of a 24m dribble bar sold by Spreadwise and has an engine pump as well and has nothing but good to say about it and the proper old fashioned service they give. (They regularly spread at 4000M+, I can put you in contact if you wish, drop me a DM) Hence us contacting them as well.

I’m miles from both but always got on better with Tramspread.
@PI Stsker how did you bend a bobbin? Mine have taken serious abuse and are still fine after 10 years use.

Is it all 6k away. Would you be better off putting a tank there and having a pipe under ground feeding a tank then spread from the tank? You will need big pipe. Coming away from pump 6 inch is like £18 a meter. U would need some 10 inch. And then 6 and 5 possible 3 pumps max. Be a fair set up but do able

We have ran 6" supply line hose for 10 years or more, We use Tramspread drop out Bobbins & they work very well with good service from them, But 6000 meters is a long way we have 4500 meters of hose & can get 180 to 200cm at the end of it with 2 pumps , our 24 meter dribble bar has to have 200 + cube going in to it to work right the more the better 300 is a good number for it , You not the Robin that has big A/D plant in the North are you ?

Good 6" hose is a lot more than £18 per meter now

I just can't get my head around a 30 metre dribble bar going 6km/h all day up and down, that is a heck of an area covered in a day and a hell of a lot of soup being moved.
Probaly not be doing 6kph up & down the field at 30 meters wide the problem with moving 2,3 or 4000 cube a day is the weather & the drains, its not hard with that much going on a block of land to get field drains picking it up & getting in to a water course

Just use and reeling has bent the whole lot forward so the frame is now bowed and makes it a hell of a job to drop the bobbin. Luckily we only have one anyway. Other thing we found was we couldn’t get as much on the tramspread reeler as they claimed.

How much hose can you get on a bobbin ?
On the tramspread bobbin we can get 800m of 5” you might get 1000m if it was on super tight but reeling round yards and tracks thats not reality. Was told would get 1200m of 5” on there when we brought it 🤥 but that would never happen
