It is shaping up to be a less than ideal season for spring crops here... Again.

Yes, my late drilled crops after grazed fodder crops look ‘less than ideal’ too. :(

Better than the fodder beet that was drilled a week ago though. That doesn’t look like anything at all yet.🤐

Could all change with a wet fortnight though…. maybe…

We grow Parkin , Gleam , Astronomer, Illuminate, , Dawsum , Typhoon and some Cranium to try this year . To be honest there’s nothing on the list or anything that’s standing out particularly from the breeders for us , we drill early , apply a lot of manures and have done for decades so if varieties are not 7/8 for standing they don’t get looked at , I wouldn’t touch Redwald or Mayflower or anything with a rating below 7 at least , everything the breeders are pushing out at the minute are so leggy it seems and late maturing aswel I think we will keep the same line up , other than dip into group 2s and have a look at Extase or Palladium although I’ve seen some neighbours September drilled Extase and it’s leggy , clean but very leggy .
