New Water supply pipe - how to get around the requirements!

agree entirely but big difference between what it can carry and what’s actually consumed.

they don’t care about pressure drop, I think they should or allow others to request over sizing to save pumps and boosters etc.

They are only obligated to provide something circa 0.7bar, whereby I can assure you they would definitely care about pressure drop if you do anything that affected the main supply for other users - as they are open to fines.
Personally I feel the lower pressure is to help reduce the leaks losing too much water...

apparently its 1 bar at the meter which we would just about get.

if the water is going through a meter than having 6 no 32mm or 1 no 63mm makes little difference to the consumption if its all going to one place though.

this is not a ring main I'm talking about which they will adopt.

Yes, positive.
Usually ran at 10bar at the tap but went to 14 from time to time. Cracked brass taps, fittings pushed off, leaking everything such as washing machines etc overflowing header tanks.
Brilliant when it came to washing anything down in the yard.
Why did your plumber not take it down to 5 or 6 bar which is the standard practice

Two reasons, I didn't tell them and I haven't got a plumber anyway.
When it got really bad I got in touch with the water company who were astonished at the pressure and very grateful to me for calling as at that pressure it usually bursts their pipes. A faulty valve apparently which they quickly fixed. Still got 10 bar at the taps though.
