A sale of sheepdogs at Dolgellau Mart in Wales brought with it a world record sale for a working sheepdog with a sale price of £27,100 (£28,455 including buyer’s premium).

Kim, a 12-month old red and white bitch, broke the previous record for a working sheepdog which was set at £20,000 at a sale in Skipton in October 2020.

There was a high volume of interest in Kim from the outset of the sale with the record price being achieved within two hours of the sale going live.

A spokesperson for the sale said: “We’re certain that her new owner, E Vaughan, Partridge Nest Farm, Newcastle, Staffordshire, will be very pleased with her.

Farmers Marts Dolgellau is appreciative of the support shown by vendors who continue to bring forward excellent quality, well-bred sheepdogs.

“We are extremely proud to be involved with the sale of yet another world record.”

The sale consisted of 126 lots with the lots comprised of 65 trained sheepdogs, 25 pups and 36 partly-trained sheepdogs.

Breaking records

The sale of Kim further added to a number of record breaking sales for sheepdogs over the last six months.

Kevin Evans, who previously held the record for the £20,000 price his sheepdog Henna fetched at Skipton mart in October, comes from a family which is no stranger to breaking records.

His father David set the world record price for an unbroken pup, after fetching £6,100 at the same Skipton auction last October.

Kevin also fetched £35,600 for the combined sale of three fully-broken dogs at Skipton last autumn.
