Newton Rigg College.

Who can I ask to talk to at Newton Rigg College that would help in seeing if a student from the hill farming course would like to come down to mid Wales for a lambing placement. I phoned the college in January of this year to look at the possibility of taking a student on and spoke to the secretary of the agri department but disappointingly she wasn't that helpful. She said she would phone back but she never did.

I'm an ex agri student of Newton Rigg myself and enjoyed my time at the college. It was a great college where I made life long friends from all around the UK.

Any advice would be greatfuly appreciated .

When is it? Placements have to fit around taught learning (ie usually not be in term time).

Lots of Ag students come with placements in mind, and although they are encouraged to go and do something different on placement, they often choose to go back home/to somewhere they already work.
All you can do is let them know a placement is available, it's up to them to take it.

I've got some great places willing to take students that might offer them a different perspective (pig units etc). Whether they take the opportunity is another story...

We lamb from beginning of March to end of April.

I know the jist of how it works with having been an Agri student and all that. I went on my work placement to Lancashire and I enjoyed the opportunity to be somewhere new that did things differently.

Would have been nice to have got response to my enquiry even if was a no sorry we don't have anyone suitable.
