Enquired at buying a new 7ton bulk feed bin from a well known english maker begining with C. Told cant supply to end of october. Spoke to dealer who deals in second hand bins, and was told , that i would be lucky to get a new one by december because the welsh and northern ireland getting 40% sub on new bins over 10 tons size? Im angry, how fair is that., Us english pay for it anyway, do they get a sub or call it a grant on other things like livestock handling ? whats other peoples views do the english livestock farmer get any help?

There is currently a grant scheme in Wales, and bins are one of things on which you can get a 40% grant. That money is coming from the 15% modulation that was stopped from Welsh farmers SFP.

I'd be surprised if there was a big rush on feed bins personally, and perhaps the tale is being used to jack up prices.;)

Iirc you could get a grant for handling and weighing equipment in England last year or year before when there was no grant in Wales. ...

For which I apologise. There have been several such grant schemes available in England........ ever since I moved to Wales in fact.:D

there was an interesting article in the times a few years ago, showing where the wealth for the uk comes from, and guess what the more you get away from the southeast ( the london effect) the less is earned and more people are dependent on govt hand outs, the worst area being northern ireland then scotland and wales, in other words purely on economic grounds alone england would be far better off being independent?

You should really check your facts before making such statements.

What you have quoted is public spending per head of population, and has NOTHING to do with revenues generated in the areas mentioned.

a lot of that wealth comes from 'peddling' the rest of the countries money.....making a handsome profit....paying themselves a fortune.....then they swan around saying how clever they are and how the rest of us have to be more efficient

bit of a rant:rolleyes:

Here's an idea mr Bluebell -
Why don't you just save yourself the cost of your bin beginning in C , and just buy 10 big tote bags of feed at a time. With the saved money, buy yourself a shiny bucket to empty them out with .
Then you won't have time to alienate the rest of your neighbours with your " ranting " !
If it cheers you up to read this in your ivory tower , there is no such scheme up here ( Scotland), as far as I'm aware . But 5 years ago I did rob you of some money to put up a slurry tower, so thank you (y) !

it is irritating when its something that you could do with, but as others have said it works both ways,i find the worst thing is most of it ends up going to the big boys who dont need it anyway its all well and good having a 40% grant but you stil have to find the other 60% .I mean you cant blame them business is business and if free money is on offer then why not!

Here the money received is that percentage of what the department of agriculture say it should cost, which in practice is much less than what it actually does cost, for example a so called 60% grant in theory can easily become a 50, 40, or even 30% grant in practice.

There is a grant scheme in Wales, but as mentioned above, it's funded with money pinched from SFP.
I failed to see anything useful at all on the list ( a combine would be nice :D), so a dead loss for me.
50% of the money probably goes to administering the scheme, employing the farming connect bods etc.
I wouldn't give them the satisfaction myself. I'd rather fund the equipment, and if I can't afford it, tough.
They will of course, soon be blubbing about the slow uptake of their new scheme.

As soon as you mention the word "grant" the supplier's prices take a 20-30% increase...

Why would you want a 7t bin anyway? It's such an odd size... (Rigid) lorries deliver 10t+ in a load, and it works out cheaper usually to take a full load. So why not just do the job right (n)

Afterall it's London handouts paying for it anyway, so why worry about the extra costs :whistle:

I can't speak for Wales or NI, but Scottish Grants are taken out of the overall Ag funds, so it's just a case of the cake being sliced up differently.
Since the SFP is on average higher England than in Scotland, the English farmers should in theory have money to buy a bin if they want one.

bulk bins are always dear anyway .

A concrete bunker with a good door(s) on front is better way of storing .........unless augering out is a requirement.

If I had 10t delivered, it would be mouldy by the time I fed it all.

Perhaps the OP doesn't feed as hard as you either.;)
