Noisy vacuum pump on tanker

I put a new gearbox on neighbour's tanker after they wiped it off with the 3pl. Vanes were in good nick with no wear and replaced the same way as they came out but now it occasionally makes a hell of a racket on pressure pump. Ball valve is clean and not sticking. Ideas? TIA, Norm

Neither have I, and I've seen a few.
Is it like this

Never seen a slip clutch on a tanker , even if there was it wouldn't make any more noise.
When under even a light loading the noise is similar to an AK47 on full auto. I am suspecting that the clutch has been damaged by the lateral load imposed on it during the gearbox demolition via the pto shaft.

my tanker has a clutch on the pto shaft at the tractor end, its an old tanker so may not be the original shaft though. looks the same end as whats on the tedder.

Probably an over run clutch , the only clutch that makes a clicking noise is a cam clutch like what's on a power Harrow , they are about €1000 and were not fitted to tankers . Try the tanker with an ordinary shaft with a shear pin for safety in case a vein sticks.

What sort of clutch and how is anyone meant to guess what stuff is fitted? Give us co-ordinates and we'll send a drone over to take pictures of it.:snaphappy: Is it a slip clutch? An Over-run clutch? To what purpose is it fitted?

Usually, vacuum tankers have no more than shear-bolt protection.

Norm, the poor old fella, is probably far too old to be able to attach tidy pictures of his mystery shaft and pump. :bored:
