Non genuine ink cartridges

Have an Epson Workforce printer and have been happily buying non genuine ink cartridges off eBay at a quarter of the price of branded Epson ones BUT now the printer has thrown a hissy fit and refuses to print. All I get is an info box stating that I have loaded non genuine cartridges. Even giving it the Vulcan death grip makes no difference.

Any ideas?

I suspect it has done a software update but would have no idea how to unupdate it

Epsons dont like copies ,,the genuines are insane money ,the reason why Ive changed mine from a cartridge machine to the Eco tank model ,,the genuine ink in bottles is half the price of the little prefilled cartridges

Buy a cheap laser printer, the ink lasts for ever and doesn't go off if you aren't using it much. Inkjet printers are given away because the companies know they'll make a fortune from selling the ink cartridges. Laser printers have come down massively in price, you can buy one for £50 now, mono only of course.

Keep cleaning the head..... it should sort it self.... that's what I did with mine.... however will buy proper ones next time...... life is too short to try and save pennies imho

We bought a brother printer years ago and wish we had done so much sooner. An older version of one like this

Pay a bit more upfront for the printer but the ink cartridges are around 50p each if bought in bulk! Cheap printing

Edit looks like the cartridges for the one above are slightly different and £3.50 each (n)

Mine just used to inform me the inks weren't genuine and ask did I want to proceed... "yes and away it went.

Binned 2 Epsons in 12 months. The last one about 8 month old with an ink consumption problem and a habit of blocking its jets.

On a Brother laser now and asking myself where I've been all this time dicking about with inkjet.

Laser is the way forward, who buys an inkjet printer nowadays
Those wanting photo quality prints. Laser was nowhere near last time I looked.

Got an Epsom A3 printer here, must be ten or eleven years old and still works fine and I've done a fair bit of work with it. Epson then decided they are going to stop making the cartridges for it which annoyed me no end until an ink company started offering third party cartridges which appear to be OK, but the fear is always that these inks won't have a perfect colour match and they would fade sooner, no problems to report on that front so far but I don't do the photo prints that I used to.
