Our ground similar. Been out simce last Friday for a few hours every day . Less silage and more milk.
Milk price must be goodWas spreading dung on stubble today. Pretty soft on top in places. One was grassy and has had a dozen heifers on it since Friday cleaning it up. It's well marked. Wouldn't want them in it if it had been good grass. More wastage than benefit grazing this week with all the rain Monday and Tuesday. The grass is going to get ahead of them soon, but would rather close some up and cut a few extra acres in may than destroy it now and have half production for the rest of the season.
i think my point was you seem to be justifying a decision which was based on a stubble field which has a different soil structure and much less transpiration than a good grass sward.Wouldnt be any different at 18p. Destroying swards is wrong at any milk price.
Try farming in ni and you'll soon find out why people do what they do. The weather has been very poor since mid July. Farm here and you'll farm anywherei think my point was you seem to be justifying a decision which was based on a stubble field which has a different soil structure and much less transpiration than a good grass sward.
of course if you don't have the infrastructure to graze in difficult conditions then fine stay in the shed.
At least they'r lying down so they're happy. Grazed my driest paddock today. It's borderline. Not looking forward to going into the wetter ones. Here's the photo. It's not good but it was better than yesterday.View attachment 661462
Lazy, that's a ridiculous statement. Only people know how wet or dry their own land is.i think my point was you seem to be justifying a decision which was based on a stubble field which has a different soil structure and much less transpiration than a good grass sward.

What do people think about the LP situation and the interest that DF have expressed?
I'm only milking 70 cows, not like all the big boys on here. Most of our gates would be much worse than that if the cows were going through them. Is that a red/white holstein or a simmental in the pic??
That's a first cross Fleckvieh...the only breed!
