Was spreading dung on stubble today. Pretty soft on top in places. One was grassy and has had a dozen heifers on it since Friday cleaning it up. It's well marked. Wouldn't want them in it if it had been good grass. More wastage than benefit grazing this week with all the rain Monday and Tuesday. The grass is going to get ahead of them soon, but would rather close some up and cut a few extra acres in may than destroy it now and have half production for the rest of the season.

Milk price must be good

Wouldnt be any different at 18p. Destroying swards is wrong at any milk price.
i think my point was you seem to be justifying a decision which was based on a stubble field which has a different soil structure and much less transpiration than a good grass sward.
of course if you don't have the infrastructure to graze in difficult conditions then fine stay in the shed.

Try farming in ni and you'll soon find out why people do what they do. The weather has been very poor since mid July. Farm here and you'll farm anywhere

Individual access off lane or road to 37 paddocks, with another six accessed through another paddock. Then some aftermath added in after first cut and stripped. Being winter calving we didn't add too much as we were drying off.

Greatly aids access, but doesn't make land any drier in the wrong weather.

Lazy, that's a ridiculous statement. Only people know how wet or dry their own land is.

Impossible to say what might come of it, but if you dont explore, you won't know. So I think DF is right to talk.

Though LP made strenuous efforts to say that this is not financially driven, I think that has to be taken with a pinch of salt. The whole point of a business is to be financially driven.
