Can't remember when was the last time we had cattle out in march, so no change there. Ground here is no better than it was mid Feb, slightly worse in some spots. Fair risk now of there being too much grass if it doesn't take up soon.

Too much grass? :stop: what do you think of this idea for grazing platform. No sheep - rest ground from start of nov. Slurry as soon as conditions allow in feb. Let cows out asap when ground warms/dries up then give them as much as they can clean up. Heifer ground and some silage ground if they need it in early april. Too wet keep then in at night. Then follow cows with a bag/acre. No sowing before cows. Stocking rate will be low so not much damage. Simple stuff I know but not many try it.

I take it then you can access your whole farm with milk cows? If so, you'd be thoroughly unique in my locality.

On the soils here, cows are generally the last thing we want on the land at the shoulders of the year, and during wet spells. Spread them thinly if you like, but the foot still goes in four inches and the hole still fills with water.

It's a nice idea, but there are practical reasons why its not a reliable strategy on this farm.
