I can pre mow in the rain and the cows clean it up great yet the neighbour tried it a number of times in dry weather and his cows tramp round and round it unsettled. They just don't like It, though a skiff of rain and they're looking in so maybe it's in the training of them to graze hard. If grass is getting heavy you're better to stick it into bales for you dont be long loosing a few litres of milk. I pre-mowed this past week covers of 2900-3400, gave them a bigger area to try and shorten the rotation. They left very little. It's good during 2nd or 3rd rotation to wipe out the hard grass round the dung pats but it's another job to do.
You must have plenty of grass. I took out 2 acres when at silage 2 weeks ago but due to the dry spell my cows are now waiting on grass.2.5 cows/acre out day and night.

Demand of 70kgDM/ha growth and have recorded 105 for this past week. Will have to skip more paddocks. Grasscheck shows parts in the South East have grown less, likely due to water shortage before the rain turned up this week.

trying to revive the ni milk price thread from the other forum which has nearly died, we differ from the rest of the uk in that most of our raw milk is "exported" to ireland and with brexit, europe what this holds for us. also most of our dairy products are exported which leaves us very exposed to world market prices. currently ni milk is between 17 to 18p with must anticipation about an immenant price rises, dairy stock price have increased considerably in recent weeks, how will the 12p scheme influence milk production, replacement dairy stock prices and the price of cull cows
Well the 12p scheme was a farce. We were in the later wave for payment. We're were told in march I think that the scheme was over subscribed and 95% of money went to first wave of applicants. RPA are total asses. All applications had to be in before Christmas I think
They knew before first payments were made how many needed paid. Why not divide it fairly instead of giving all to first group. If we falter in a payment we endure debt collectors or lose assets

Why not apply in the first round then?

I think the small farmer scheme for under 1million litre producers that is currently available is unfair, why is a producer supplying over this cut out of the picture? Plenty of farms over this threshold getting it just as tight with maybe two or more families trying to get a living from milk.

The expenses are a dodgy one. It's not just the farmer reps (they aren't the ones it was on about) but everyone can spend more money when others are paying. I am informed a posh restaurant in padstow doesn't have the same bookings round royal Cornwall as it once had from a milk company. Cant say that no other places to eat in area.
