I well remember most of it except we hard Fordson Major & Super Major.
Milling the pig food was one of the jobs I was allowed to do aged 12 LOL

Palaver? OK in those times it was graft but with company and a good craic could be had. Probably one family supported by 50 acres unlike 1000 today, simple times and I'm really glad I was lucky enough to have been there or thereabouts.
I was thinking there was a bit of recreational cultivation.... one pass with a rotavator (were they about in the early '60s ? ) would have done.

Not sure about the merit of the rotavator but a lot of cultivating for sure, especially when they came to the amount of clods on the harvester. I assume that the cultivation operation was staged, taking place on one day or a few. I was surprised at the density of the haulm with one lot baulking.

Yes, I noticed spuds were picked off , rather than the clods and stones.:D

There was one youtube video doing the rounds of a farmer from Essex who was using a big chisel plough to prepare the ground and broadcasting the seed, anyone remember it or got a link?
