Starting with a rotten Sanderson grain bucket converted 18 years ago to JCB lugs, with old borehole pump tubes, base from a feed auger from the digester, bits of chassis rails from a 40 year old Solus feeder box, greedy board from Trioliet mixer once used on the digester, offcuts of bucket edge. Two new pieces of plate 100x100mm to close off ends of RHS.

The ram is from a shear grab, I bought the engine and pump set as a non runner with less than 1000hrs.
The valve is specifically for a logsplitter. The engine is a 22 hp Yanmar with pumps made by Bosch.

I like that timber jack, can't say I've ever seen one before. Looks a really handy tool.

During the trial phase the oil was heating as the valve I was using wasn't of sufficient flow so I fitted an oil cooler from a zetor 12045.................
No fear of damage as the work is at the other end...............................Been 2 yrs that way now.............

I have a very old Twose backactor which I converted to a 3 point fitting to go on the back of my all-powerful UTB445DT. It's very limited compared to any mini digger, but is a lot better than the alternative bar & shovel!
A few years back I bent the dipper ram
DSC02424.JPG
I was digging some nasty rock in a stream bed at the time so put it down to operator error & inexperience. Got a new rod made since my lathe will only pass 1 1/8" through the spindle & rod was 1 1/4"(n). Ram back together & all was fine for some months until I pulled out a small tree stump & found that the new rod had similarly bent:banghead::banghead:
Since this wasn't really hard digging, but was close to the tractor, I was mystified as to how I had done it again, especially since they had taken a measurement directly from the original rod length.:scratchhead:

After another new rod fitted, much cogitation & measuring later, I came to the conclusion that the stroke was too great, which led to the dipper ram going over centre, so that when the bucket applied a compression force back to the dipper, the rod would start to bend. Once started, of course the result was inevitable.

Hmmmm... further investigation showed that the bracket locating the dipper ram on the boom had been extensively repaired at some stage in the past & probably re welded too close to the end. After refitting the ram & carefully extending, I took some measurements to see how far the ram would over extend past the critical point. 7/8" was the reduction of stroke necessary. Off with the ram again & out with the piston rod.
I had a scout through the scrap bins & found some grey delrin-type plastic which had once been a pallet truck wheel. 10 mins on the lathe & a spacer was produced
PICT0198.JPG
Which I fitted where the red arrow shows between the piston & the end gland assembly

DSC02431.png

Result for 10mins lathework is a properly extending ram which should :)whistle:) be safe from future damage.
Look out Australia, here I come!

My first welding project, did a night class in the local college in stick welding basics and then bought myself a good Mig. These were the first results, feel free to add comments and suggestions..
