The National Pig Association (NPA) is searching for a new senior policy adviser to help make a “real difference” in shaping the future of the UK pig industry.

The new recruit will replace Charlie Dewhirst, who is stepping down from the role after being selected as the Conservative Party candidate for the Bridlington and The Wolds constituency at the next General Election.

The trade association for UK pig farmers is looking for a “passionate and confident individual” able to represent British pig producers in Westminster and with processors, foodservice, retailers, and to the media.

Successful candidate

The successful candidate for the senior policy adviser position will be part of a team known across the livestock industry for its ability to “punch above its weight and to go above and beyond in support of its members”, the NPA said.

“You will be responsible for parliamentary liaison as well as a range of policy areas largely related to operating in a post-EU environment and international trade.

“You will also have a good reputation for effective influencing and developing relevant connections with civil servants, MPs, peers and other organisations.

“It will be a challenging but highly rewarding position, and an opportunity to really make your mark in communicating the role of the UK pig industry following the forthcoming General Election.”

Knowledge of the UK pig industry would be advantageous but not essential and, above all, the NPA said it is looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual, with strong communication skills and an ability to grasp new policy areas quickly.

Experience of working with MPs, lobbying or within Parliament and an established parliamentary network would be desirable and the salary will be competitive and dependent upon experience.
