NVZ rules fit for purpose?

Once we have completed Brexit will we be able to have a sensible review of the open and closed NVZ periods. Currently the period has been open for two months will little hope (SW) in being able to spread anything so we are currently closed for between 6 and 7 months so far. Yet in a dry autumn we are not permitted to spread. Could we not be so prescriptive.

I an ideal world DEFRA would actually understand agriculture and closed seasons would be adjusted regionally each year based on ground conditions.

NVZ status would also take account of the nitrogen input to rivers from sewage treatment works when setting the boundaries of zones rather than just designating most rivers downstream of STW's and forcing all farms to meet NVZ regs as a result.

I'm not holding my breath though :whistle:

As @Badshot suggests, I think these things could get a whole lot worse after Brexit.
