Totally irresponsible application, I'll bet that Gallant is beyond risk and the last 3 are resistant. Who advised you to do that, they need sacking and I would not hesitate to do it. That kind of prophylactic treatment make my wee boil.

What I meant but was trying to be diplomatic, so its the agronomists balls on the line in the morning! Do you question every recommendation/product @faircomment even if its just in your own mind, I do.

I followed agronomist advice not to add pyrthroid when I sprayed kerb//fung to our rape in the autumn. Regretted it ever since. Over wintered population of mealy aphids has meant higher rates of aphox/pyrethroid in the spring to control them.
How many of us apply autumn insecticides to wheat and oosr without actually knowing if problem aphids or flea beetles are there.
Surely that's the whole point of chem application. Making a decision on how the Chems you put in the tank will affect the population of aphids, blackgrass, rust or whatever in a month or twos time. Not now....

this thread typifys some of the issues with the agronomy Industry. I am pleased we do our own agronomy as I hear more and more of people being overtly reliant on these crooked serviced agronomy packages just chucking chemical around like its going out of fashion

Before you all vilify the agronomist, look at multi year replicated TAG trials data that shows a yield benefit from insecticide (yes, Dursban now banned) in the absence of insect pressure. Just saying.

Not that I would apply anything with my T3 unless populations were well in excess of threshold.

Wow... what a sweeping statement. Did you get out of the wrong side of bed this morning or have too many beers this evening?

Like many of the posts replying to @faircomment, based on the information supplied the pyrethroid application appears to be unjustifiable (but without seeing the crop in the last 7 days none of us know for sure).

@ajd132 I don't think he mentioned "which side of the fence" his agronomist worked.... did your ex serviced agronomist run off with your wife or mother?

Because it's true, and you should know which of you're varieties are OBM resistant!

I'm just convinced people are being sold far too much chemical than they should be if they had an independent or did it themselves and as farmers we line far too many people's pockets other than our own, land agents/chemical companies/machinery etc etc
Apolagise if I came on abit aggressive but I'm really anti prophylactic use of Insecticides

Very very apt imo.

they may be resistant to pyrthroid so spraying just kill all the beneficials

I have sprayed for aphids at t3 or later only once and that time the weather sorted them out the day after spraying

insecticide for bydv can be put on in the early spring for the same effect on yield in this area if the winter does not control aphids as can be witnessed from those who used seed dressing or later planted crops that are infected
