Hi all,

I seem to remember a thread on here that had a link to an online scanner, I have had a look back through several pages and can't find it.

If anyone could point me in the right direction of it or any other trusted online virus, trojan, malware, scanners it would be appreciated.

TIA

Hi Jon,

If you want on online virus checker/scanner there are few good options:

BitDefender QuickScan - http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/scanner/online/free.html
TrendMicro HouseCall - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/
F-Secure - https://www.f-secure.com/en_GB/web/home_gb/online-scanner

We've used all three in the past and while they are slow they do the job.

Although these are online scanners they will all require installation of a small client but all three are well known and reputable companies.

Hope this helps.

My pc guy swares by it , I asked about using a seperate security but he didnt recomend it as they can have hidden problems
I have Microsoft security essentials "allegedly" protecting my PC, just lately it doesn't always start, and I have to manually turn it on, maybe 3 times a week.

When this happens the system tells me that it isn't protected, and that I have "multiple security problems", so I just thought I'd try an online scanner to play things safe.

Thanks for the links.

Since my OP, I realised that I have had a senior moment, and the online scanner I was thinking about came via a customer, and not the forum:banghead:

It was one that can be found on this website http://www.eset.co.uk (a link at the bottom of the page)

as the ones linked above it requires a small download, but also gives the option of deleting itself on closing.

I have ran it, and it found and deleted 4 threats that security essentials had not picked up.

Hi Jon,

Pleased you found what you are looking for, eset is definately another very good one.

Just for reference the eset Online Scanner requries installation of a small client (or ActiveX control in Internet Explorer) like the others.
The direct link is http://www.eset.co.uk/Antivirus-Utilities/Online-Scanner.

Nice to see someone taking care of their computer, it's like any other tool you need to look after it for it to continue to do it's job.

Honestly, Microsoft's own AV is pretty hopeless and comes consistently low down the rankings on magazine AV roundups. I prefer to disable it and use one of other free ones. AVG is good, and Avast is currently my free AV of choice. Run it alongside Malwarebytes, and you've got a two-pronged attack should any nasties find their way in.
