MF power shuttle is the best on the market in my opinion, however it wasn’t available on the 61’s,
MF dealer had numerous attempts to sort the shuttle on our 6150’s , first one went at end of warranty but never completely successful, in the end we paid to have it converted to a gear stick and it was bloody fantastic to what had gone before although I was a bit pee'd of when I later found out that many had been converted to manual shuttle under warranty considering the hassle we’d had.
Usual story like all makers mind if they can get away with it they do....

Worst thing about the MF pre select was not only was it not reliable but it was behind the competition, JD and NH had got power shuttles by them
They certainly got it right in the end with their power shuttle but I ceased to be a loyal MF customer with the 6100 series despite the fact that i continued to buy their tractors for a number of years after

Deutz had pre-select shuttle for several years after MF on some Agrotron variants. Some like it, most don’t. John Deere jumped ahead of the game in 1992 when they introduced Power Quad and its power shuttle. They never have caught up with the MF Autotronic automated systems of course. Another JD masterstroke was their introduction of the mini electronic quadrant control for the three point linkage with intuitive use, natural wake-up sequence and one flick operation to move the links their full working arch. NH brought out their version on TM tractors but despite having the best linkage control otherwise, MF stubbornly kept using the big wheel. This despite Ferguson being the first to adopt a quadrant [and three point linkage].

Were they really that bad for the time, what did jd ford offer in 1999ish I know 10 series jd are good but the forward reverse shuttle was average until it was left had reverser option ( but good cab setup ergonomic) what was fords like can’t say I’ve used one.

my only proper experience was test driving a 6170 in 2016 prior to buying a 6465 both me and my late father were amazed how much guts it had for a n/a engine compared to the jd 6430 we had!!

IIRC, at the time of buying my first 6150 the rep said it was the same, or more to the point same principal as the Fendt shuttle of the time, not sure when Fendt went power shuttle but presumably after 2000.
Fendt and Deutz probably used the same ZF gearbox at the time. I think the Vario was the first medium/large tractor gearbox they made themselves.

By far the most unreliable tractors I’ve ever had, that many warranty claims on mine not only was I on first name terms with every mechanic and manager at the dealers, I could identify who they were by voice on the phone.
There was a change of dealer shortly after I bought my first 6200 and I soon lost track of who the mechanics were.

As for shuttles, the early power shuttle on both JD and NH..........or was it Ford back then were right hand operated. Can’t recall using a JD back then but I had a 7740 on demo at the time and as I recall the shuttle worked well...............buying a 6150 was definitely a bad move.

Yes they were right hand shuttle on Deere and NH. The NH was a mechanical synchromesh shuttle, not a power shuttle. Later on the NH gained a declutch button on the lever so people could pretend that it was a power shuttle

Exactly Dyna shift box with Perkins phaser engines were not all bad,not sure how they compared on prices at time to competitors ?‍♂️
IIRC a 7740 was up to 4K cheaper than a 6150 in 1995, 4K less being for the SL spec which would have been lower spec than the D1 spec 6150 I bought. there was also an SLE and SLE special , I think the difference was about 1k on as near like for like and I bought the massey, sight unseen, out of brand loyalty.?

It was the one with the de clutch button that I had on demo, whatever the mechanics of how it worked, it seemed to work well when on demo.

Declutch button on the NH shuttle came in when they still had white cab roofs on them and Ford was still the main branding on the bonnet.
Got a new 7740 in autumn 1993 and remember dealer saying it was first one they had in with that button.

Jcb had pre select shuttle on 2100 series up till 2015

Our family have owned over 30 MFs spanning 60 years. Being in Australia we have had a mix of Coventry, Beauvais and US built machines.

We have had a great run and I think in part it is due to them rarely leaving the farm (no roading).

Electronics have been the most niggling issue over time.

The two standout features have been the reliability and strength of the Perkins engines and as we are vegetable row croppers the 3pl systems have always been up to the tasks from sub soiling to row cropping. The 100 series had excellent 3pl systems and our brand loyalty has continued on from this.
